„I had no idea what was going on. Or very little. Nothing more than anyone else knew. So you can’t make me feel guilty.“ – a performance in Greek brought to Berlin by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus

The play "A German Life" is based on the life and testimony of Brunhilde Pomsel, a life spanning the twentieth century. She went through difficult times trying to make ends meet as a secretary in the 1930s. Joseph Goebbels was her last employer. Hampton's play is based on Pomsel's statements, during an interview to a group of Austrian filmmakers in 2016, shortly before her death at the age of 106, when she finally broke her silence.

The play "A German Life" by the award-winning Christopher Hampton will be performed, starring Despina Bebedelli and directed by Andreas Araouzos, in the city where the protagonist's disturbing memories unfold: Berlin.

For the first time this play was performed in Greek by Satyriko Theater and Alpha Square in Cyprus in March 2020 and last September it was performed by the National Theater in Athens, as part of the Cyprus’ Theater Week.

Despina Bebedelli's performance was also part of her 2021 ZTO Grand Prix award.

Two performances will take place in Berlin - at the Acker Stadt Palast - on 20 and 21 May 2023, under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Germany, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.
