in German, English, Ukrainian

Kyiv Contemporary Music Days - a platform for new music currently based between Kiev and Berlin - invites you to the Acker Stadt Palast to talk together about the challenges of the profession and listen to live music by emerging contemporary composers from Ukraine.

The programme includes a panel discussion with festival curators from Kiev, Berlin and New York, a Q&A session and an electro-acoustic set by composer Yana Shliabanska. There are many things we would like to talk about, serious and not so serious, so everyone is welcome to join our informal conversation over a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

The evening will start with a panel discussion that will look at the impact of current political and social realities on our methods and decisions. We will familiarise ourselves with the principles and practices of organisations that care for Ukrainian new music in times of war, and also address the issue of supporting artists* who are going through the difficult experience of social and political unrest in their home country.

Leah Batstone - musicologist specialising in the intersections of art music, philosophy and politics in fin-de-siècle Austria and 20th century Ukraine, REWIRE Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Vienna and Artistic Director of the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival in New York.

Julian Rieken - Artist, curator and artistic director of IMPULS Festival, Germany, working at the intersection of sound culture, artistic research, ecological and social action.

Albert Saprykin - composer, curator, co-founder and director of Kyiv Contemporary Music Days, Ukraine.

The discussion will be moderated by Hanna Grześkiewicz - independent curator, author and researcher working with sound and words, board member of the Berlin Society for New Music (BGNM).

After the discussion, guests can expect a live electronic set by Yana Shliabanska - composer and sound artist from Ukraine, author of chamber and orchestral music, interactive sound installations, music for theatre and dance performances and electroacoustic music. Yana is currently a visiting artist at the Cité internationale des arts (Paris). Yana will perform works by herself and Boris Loginov (composer, Ukraine).
