„methods of completion, a being haunted by purpose“ / Edith Buttingsrud Pedersen, Company HAA
“Methods of Completion, a being haunted by purpose” is a revision and a continuation, of the solo work “Methods of Completion, a being that causes itself” created with and by Edith during first lockdown in her room and residency at Ada studio in 2020.
During #share, in collaboration with dancer Jonathan Sanchez, and musician Mikki Benson, Edith gives the questions of her first solo work a new perspective, by exploring the connection between the vision of “completion” and the validation through “the other” of such, as a contemporary human instinct and form of
“Methods of Completion” is a journey through various patterns of endings. A variation of attempts to end and begin and return. To fall, land and fall again, to finish, and to repeat. It is a comment on the absurd circle of repetition, revolution after revolution, love after love, orgasm after orgasm, death after death, apple after apple, war after war, shower after shower, shit after shit.
We ask, are we afraid of endings, of letting go of something, or is there a comfort, a safety in allowing patterns by creating a structure in something that otherwise would be undefined? Is this a method of completion, and therefore a catalyst to the madness? A reset to the cycle. Or symbolism of this cycle itself. A breath in this continuous motion that is existence.
Man is a creature haunted by a vision of “completion”, what Sartre calls "a being that causes itself “. As we strive for the complete, we search for the endings throughout our lives and history; the end of the day, the end of a meal, the end of a story, the end of a territory, the end of the world, the end of innocence. “Methods of Completion” is a embodiment of the relationship that exists between
all of humanity and the idea of an “end”. It is a reflection of human life, its circles and its history.

Company Haa was founded in 2018 by 4 diverse berlin based dance artists. We meet in 2014 in The Collective
ONE:THIRD (Winner of 100 Berlin jury price 2015). Since then we have produced 18 works and been granted various Residencies. We have presented our work around Berlin and Europe, ( Dock11, Sophiensaele, Acker Stadt Palast, Lake Studios, Eschschloraque, Soundance Festival, Salon K Festival, Takkleloften in The Royal Opera house (Copenhagen), Ada Studios, Tanzzentrale Nuremberg, Rozbark Dance and movement Theater Bytom, to mention a few. ) We work in urban and traditional theatrical spaces looking for direct contact with the participants of our art. We search for innovative ways to translate movement into language that can be understood by a diverse audience. We are interested in the reflection of human nature and its development.
Our art serves to create awareness on critical social topics. We are exited & inspired from relationships, simple encounters, social constructs, ability to communicate or lack of such & by the abstractive of the art form dance, it’s sensory experience that unites people in the diversity of their experience. Our artistic approach is rooted in score-based choreography and improvisation, favoring an ongoing-research and reevaluation of current processes. We are intrigued by the human body. Its physical and cognitive skills, its multitude of possibilities for expression and capacity for countless transformations. In our work, we search for strong physicality and expression of the body.
