The Most Beautiful Name of Fear / Sofia Ó

Sofia Ó /

This is a dance piece, but it could be a date to listen to a record for the first time.

A dance to resist the paralysis of fear. A body in transit, not contained in any form. This is a dance solo based on the certainty that there is no dancing alone. Woven between Portugal and Brazil, the piece incorporates in its poetics displacements and communications between territories and temporalities. Between the corporeal and the immaterial, in the entanglement between what has been and what is to come. How does the dance continue when there is so much fear in the air? What part of fear invites us to move?

Sofia Ó (São Paulo, Brazil, 1991) is an artist and dance researcher. She is interested in the body as an experience of encounter and a space for the invention of freedoms. She creates and presents performance pieces, is the author of works in art education, anthropology and art, and directs dance practices at c.e.m - centro em movimento (Lisbon, Portugal). With a background in anthropology and dance, her work has reflected on questions of the invisible and the perennial, and the dimension of dance as a shared and co-inhabited experience. In her first solo, "excavation" (2019), she invited the audience to share the vision of a wall, within which the dance took place. In his most recent creation, "PARAGEM: PASSAGEM", presented in Lisbon in 2023, the dance scenes took place at different points along a route travelled by the public in tourist vehicles; in this piece of dance in transit, the affections of a body travelling through times and spaces. "O Nome Mais Belo do Medo", her second piece, was created in the midst of a pandemic and a pregnancy, bringing together professionals from different locations. Rather than a dance created for a space, this dance aims to create an atmosphere from the encounter between body, sound, objects and witnesses. In addition to her creations, Sofia Ó has collaborated with other artists in the performing arts and music, providing creative support, body preparation and artistic accompaniment.
